Go Beyond Self

This is like a two edged sword. Look historically at all the people whose lives are worth emulating. They did one or both very well, right?

We just instinctively know that this is true, but why?
Because deep in the recesses of ourselves, we were meant to glorify God (a cause beyond ourselves) and live in relationship to others (family and community).
A person whose life doesn’t have some degree of both of these is usually (almost always) a man who is shady and lacks honor.

Look at these great examples from history:

  • Jesus Christ
  • David
  • MLK Jr.
  • Mother Theresa
  • Paul
  • Fred Rogers
  • Michael Murphy (and every person who has given their lives sacrificially for another)
  • Richard Rescorla (google him)
  • Amanda (my wife’s kidney donor)
  • All Servicemen (Soldiers, Sailor, Airmen or Marine)

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Jesus Christ, John 15:13 NIV

What’s the cause that you are living for?

Is it bigger than you?

Give some manliness to your friends
